Hand Surgery Billing

Mudgeeraba Hand Clinic is a private practice and fees apply. 

Full payment is required at the time of consultation. Payment options include cash, EFTPOS or credit / debit card. If you have an accepted Workcover claim, we can bill directly to WorkCover for you. In order to do this, we will require details of the insurer, case manager and claim number. Please ensure you bring these details to the appointment.  

The cost of post-operative appointments is generally included in the surgical fee, and hence there is no added cost for routine follow up consultations with your surgeon.  The specific duration of this will vary depending on the procedure performed, but is usually 6 weeks. 

There are associated costs with hand therapy, including post-operative hand therapy (see below).

If you and your surgeon decide that surgery is the best option for your condition, an estimation of the cost will be provided by our practice manager. 

The specific costs will vary, depending on the condition, your health fund and level of cover. In most instances, the majority of the cost will be covered by your health fund, however there is usually some out of pocket fees.

Other costs which may be incurred may include, but are not limited to:

·  The surgical assistant’s fee

·  The Anaesthetist’s fee

·  The Private Hospital fee

·  Hand Therapy fees

·  Radiology fees

·  Pharmacy fees

(these will also vary depending on your specific health fund and level of cover).

There are no additional fees for patients with an approved Workcover claim or patients holding a DVA Gold Card.

Please be aware that although our surgeons also work in the public system, we are unable to facilitate public system bookings through Mudgeeraba Hand Clinic. Should you wish to be treated via the public system, you will need to be referred to the Gold Coast University Hospital / Queensland Children's Hospital Orthopaedic/Plastic Surgery outpatient department directly from your referring doctor.

Payment is required on the day of treatment. This will include the consult fee, as well as any additional materials that you may need e.g. dressings, splinting / casting materials  required etc.

An idea of fees are listed below: 

·  Initial consultation fee: $140

·  Subsequent consultation fee: $95

·  Long subsequent consultation fee: $110   

Commonly used additional fees include: 

·  Coban Tape: from $6.60 per roll

·  Custom-Made Thermoplastic Splints

• Finger Based: $17.60 
• Hand Based: $50 - $60
• Wrist Based $60- $100 
• Forearm Based $110-$140 

·  Standard Dressing $17.60 

·  Waterproof Cast $70-$80

Please bring your health fund card, as we have a HICAPS machine for immediate rebate from your health fund for your convenience. 

We are registered with health insurance funds under Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy for consultations, as well as for splints and casts.
